It may be a coincidence that Chinmaya Mission which beams with the charming glory of Indian Renaissance flourishes in the soil of Palakkad,the hallowed birth place of Swami Tapovanam, the“Paramguru” of all Chinmaya devotees. It was in Palakkad that Swami Chinmayananda conducted his first Gita yajna in Kerala, More over PalakkadChinmaya Mission is the first Chinmaya Mission centre established in Kerala.  In 1954, Gurudev‟s first GitaGnanayajna was inaugurated at VijnanaRamaneeyaAsramam, Koppam, Palakkad by Sri.Sreeprakasham,theGovernor of Madras.After 3 Years, in 1957, a Second yajna was conducted in Palakkad and in the same year PalakkadChinmaya Mission Centre was formed.After his third yajna at Palakkad in 1962, there was  awaiting of twelve years for the Palakkad people to listen to his yajna which was in 1974.The years 1977, 1983 and 1986 also tasted the nectar of Gita through his  skills Palakkad had been blessed.. His last Yajna at Palakkad was in January 1990 with his Gnana Yajnas.

As a result of theGurdev‟s visits,Yajnas and mission activities, many devotees came forward to becomemission workers and members. A new kind of rejuvenation and enthusiasm could be seen in the spiritual realm. Within a year,Chinmaya Movement could lay a firm foundation in Palakkad with its sincere and ardent work. Inspired by the activities of Palakkad centre, new mission centres started functioning in Kollengode and Tattamangalam.

It was in 1975 that Palakkad Centre bought the present ChinmayaTapovanamwhere Swami Tapovanamji stayed for Two years and did his sadhana before leaving to Himalayas. In 1976, PalakkadChinmaya Mission organized an All Kerala BalaMahotsavam which undoubtedly proved Mission‟s leadership quality. ChinmayaYuvakendra and Vijnanamandira came into existence in 1979 with the inaugural blessings of Swami DayanandaSaraswati

GitaGnanaYajanas of SwaminiGanganandaSaraswati in 1980, of SwaminiSaradapriyananda in 1982, and talks on Ramayana by „Uncle‟Mani in 1984 were conducted and all these added glory to the mission activities. In November 1988 the then Br.Ashish Chaithanya now known to all devotees as
H.H.Swami Aseshanandaji took over as Acharya of the Palakkad Centre. It is devotion sincerity to his Guru and to the words of the Gita has reached many nearby Villages and people.

With the formation of Chinmaya Mission Education and Cultural Trust (CMECT) Palakkad in 1990, the mission stepped into its third stage of activities. All the financial and administrative responsibilities were entrusted to the Trust .This helped the Mission to focus completely on spiritual activities .The spiritual activities of the centre are handled by each Mission centre while the administration of all the mission centres in Palakkad district comes under the Trust. It is remarkable to note that Guruji H.H.Swami Tejomayanandaji‟s Gita yajna was organized by the Trust from February 1st to 7th 1994.Palakkad was fortunate to have his Gita yajnas in 1997, and 2001.It was in 2001 that he laid the foundation stone for ChinmayaTapovanSmriti and SreeGuruvayurappan Temple. On January 23rd 2003, Guruji himself inaugurated it and consecrated the Prathishta, and blessed the devotees with his yajna from January 24th to 30th. Gita yajnas by him were conducted in the years 2007 to 2013 . At present all the activities are running smoothly with the able guidance and support of Pujya H.H Swami Asheshanandaji, the Acharya of Palakkad centre.
